Autumn is the time when nature reveals her inner beauty ~ and brings the gift of that beauty to the world. The years after 50 are like that.
“Women can look and feel their very best in the full bloom of mid-life. Joy is appreciating the beauty of the season we are in, not longing or looking back. ~Dr Christiane Northrup.
I mostly live in New Zealand but I love nothing more than to spend time in my cabin in the woods in upstate New York when autumn is closing in.
There’s always one tree that begins to turn from the very tip. Then another. And another. Eventually the whole woods ends up wrapped around my cabin, blazing like there’s no tomorrow. Some mornings I feel I can’t breathe for the beauty that greets me when I open my eyes.
And then there are the apples ripening on those gnarly old trees that look like they’ve been there forever. The black bears love those. Mother bear sends the baby up the tree but doesn’t dare climb herself!
Yes. For sure. Autumn is my favourite season. So honestly, when someone tells me I am in the autumn of my life I say YES! All that unleashed beauty and wave upon wave of orange-tinted light that keeps me in a heightened state of joy? All that ripening to the point of lusciousness?
Yes! If that’s what the autumn of my life is like I’ll take it. And if that’s how I’m going to look, I’ll take that too.
“She looked like autumn, when leaves turned and fruit ripened.”
~Sarah Addison Allen.
The summer of my life was bliss of course. I can’t deny.
But this autumn brings it’s own kind of joy.
I found out the other day that all those firey colours are hiding inside the leaves all summer long, obscured from view by the more dominant and youthful colour green. It’s only as youth loses its grip on the leaf that the fire and beauty inside it can be seen.
So then, autumn is the time when nature reveals her inner beauty ~ and brings the gift of that beauty to the world. I want this stage of my life to be like that. I want to tap into that fire and passion inside me and use it to colour the world and lift people’s spirits ~ just like autumn does. I’m on a mission!
